CMS and Open Source Technologies

Open Source Technologies have found a greater demand, recently, with the advent of easy to install and user friendly Content Management Systems. At RSB Technologies we have been analyzing and testing many of these open source technologies, including the popular three – Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.

Our testing and web development team at RSB Technologies have come out with the following conclusions.

First, all the three CMS’s (WordPress, Joomla and Drupal) are better suited to LAMPP environment. On Windows Server environment, the CMS’s are a little difficult to configure and also their features are limited, which can be improved with additional component services installation.

Second, that Drupal and Joomla have a more complex architecture and are not as much user friendly and illustrative as WordPress is. This gives WordPress an edge, as is reflected with the weekly downloads and new installation wordpress websites.

Third, the design and features WordPress offers can be improved a lot with thousands of themes and plugins. However, in many cases too many plugins on WordPress Installation often makes it unstable, mainly due to the presence of scripts. In design WordPress used to have a typical Blog appeal, which has been improved now with custom page templates and custom post template features.

For user generated networking sites and applications, Drupal is more suited that both Joomla and WordPress. WordPress is more or less suited for smaller projects or corporate websites where content and content type is not much extensive. Drupal however scores in here.

Google and SEO

Google has come a long way in successfully make a fine Revenue Generation Model for most of its products and services. In most of the cases, Google started with free service until the service or product catches up with the users and then molding it into a business model.
